The database containing the Geological Map of Italy at a scale 1:500.000 was compiled during the 1990's by digitizing the published map in raster format. All the information contained is derived from the published map that was compiled using a lithostratigraphic approach. The database is structured in 2 layers and 1 descriptive table.

The web services are developed under the eENVplus project, to provide download service compliant with GeoSciML INSPIRE Data model and to perform pilot demostration.

3D geological model Italian pilot area GeoMol Project: 3D preliminary model of some stratigraphic horizons and seismogenic sources derived and elaborated from already published data: Top Trias (elaborated from Pieri, M. and G. Groppi, 1981. Subsurface geological structure of the Po Plain, Italy); Base Pliocene (from Bigi, G., 1992. Structural Model of Italy and Gravity Map, 1:500,000); Pleistocene 1-3 (elaborated from R.E.R and ENI-AGIP, 1998. Riserve idriche sotterranee nella Regione Emilia-Romagna; R.L. and ENI-AGIP, 2002. Geologia degli Acquiferi Padani della Regione Lombardia); seismogenic sources (from DISS Working Group, 2010. Database of Individual Seismogenic Sources (DISS), Version 3.1.1: A compilation of potential sources for earthquakes larger than M 5.5 in Italy and surrounding areas, available at: http://diss.rm.ingv.it/diss/)

The web map service allows to view as background the Geological Map of Italy at the scale 1:1.250.000; published by Geological Survey of Italy - ISPRA in 2004. This service is useful to have a reference background for evaluating the geologic setting and to view a map with cartographic standard. The service isn't queryable.

The database represents a subset of the GEO1MDB that is the Geological Map of Italy at the scale 1:1.000.000 trim for the eENVplus project on the Friuli Venezia Giulia Region.
-
The database of the 1:1.000.000 scale Geological Map of Italy, named GEO1MDB, is structured into 4 geometric layers and 3 descriptive tables. The layers are: Geologic Units, Tectonics Units, Geologic Structures and Regional Structures.

The Geologic and Lithologic units of Italy at the scale 1:500.000 in digital form are available for personal use only, for each other use you need specific authorization by the Geological Survey of Italy. The OCG WMS Service of 1:500k Geology is based on the informatization of the Geologic Map of Italy at the same scale pubblished between 70's and 80's by the Geological Survey of Italy. Layers available are: Chronostratigraphy, lithostratigraphy and lithology.
