The site Crique Bastien is composed of two 3km-transects (20m wide). 2608 trees with dbh>=20cm have been recorded by Office national des forêts (ONF). No fauna inventories available. No under-storey plants inventories are available. Soils have been described using 3 samples (1.20m depth max.). No laboratory analysis available for soils.

This “Inventaire Papetier” was conducted by ONF in 1976. The block covers 22 087 ha. 54 020 trees have been inventoried in 235 plots (164 ha) Pre-census DBH is 10 cm on one plot out of two and 40 cm on the others. DBH have been measured by classes with a range of 10 cm. Plots have been located on GIS in 2010 using original maps and field note-books (indicating slopes, rivers, etc...).

The site Haute Beiman is composed of four 3km-transects (20m wide). 5207 trees with dbh>=20cm have been recorded by Office national des forêts (ONF). Fauna inventories have been made by Office national de la chasse et de la faune sauvage (ONCFS) few days after. 833 under-storey plants have been recorded on 44 25m²-plots. Soils have been described using 18 samples (1.20m depth max.). One laboratory analysis available for soils.

The site Camp Caïman is composed of four 3km-transects (20m wide). 4018 trees with dbh>=20cm have been recorded by Office National des Forêts (ONF). Fauna inventories have been made by Office national de la chasse et de la faune sauvage (ONCFS) few days after. There is no inventory of under-storey plants on this site. Soils have been described using 10 samples (1.20m depth max.). No laboratory analysis available for soils.

This “Inventaire Papetier” was conducted by the CTFT in 1975. The block covers 23 706 ha. 11 427 trees have been inventoried in 97 plots (47 ha) Pre-census DBH is 10 cm on one plot out of 10 and 15 cm in the others. DBH have been measured by classes : 10-20 cm or 15-20 cm for the first class and with a range of 10 cm since 20 cm. Plots have been located on GIS in 2006 using original maps and field note-books (indicating slopes, rivers, etc...).

The site Waki is composed of 4 3km-transects (20m wide). 5106 trees with dbh>=20cm have been recorded by Office national des forêts (ONF). Fauna have been inventoried few days after (ONCFS). 910 under-storey plants have been inventoried on 39 plots (IRD). Soils have been described using 25 samples (1.20m depth max.) and 4 soil pits. Laboratory analysis are available for one soil profiles and the four soil pits.

Habitats inventories have been installed over the years in French Guiana using a standardized multi-scale protocol. In each site, we established two to four transects, about 2.5 to 3-km long in different directions to optimally sample the local environmental variability. Each 20-m width transect was divided into 100 m segments so that the basic sampling units are 0.2-ha plots. All the plots were geo-referenced using a Garmin 76CSx GPS receiver and delineated in the field using a Vertex laser clinometer. In each plot, all trees (including palm-trees) greater than 20 cm diameter at breast height (DBH) or above the buttresses were identified by local forest-plotters from ONF. They referred to a vernacular nomenclature whose names correspond either to a botanical species, genus or family. Tested against true botanical data on 4279 trees (Guitet et al., 2014), this nomenclature proved 83% effective accuracy at the family level and 74% at the level of the most precise botanical equivalent of our vernacular names (i.e. the species, genus or family level depending on the precision reached by forest-plotters). Soil samples were also collected in 490 selected plots representative of the different topographical positions along each transect. Chemical and textural analyses are available. Plants of the under-storey have been collected by IRD in several 5m x 5m sub-plots on different sites : Kourouaï, Piton Baron, Aïmara, Saut Parasol, Mont Itoupé, Waki, Toponowini, Bagote, Haute Beiman, Roche Koutou, Regina. Standardized line transects surveys were conducted by ONCFS in 25 sites on the same transects in order to record large mammals and terrestrial birds. Transects were walked at less than 1 kmh-1 speed every morning (7:00-11:00) and afternoon (14:30-18:00) by only one observer by trail, systematically alternating transects on consecutive days to avoid observer bias. All encounters of focus species and their localization on the trail were systematically recorded and the perpendicular distance between animal and transect was measured with a laser ranger finder to the nearest meter.
