Within the framework of the 2012 – 2015 Interreg IV project GeoMol (Assessing subsurface potentials of the Alpine Foreland Basins for sustainable planning and use of natural resources) basic information on the subsurface of the Molasse Basins north and south of the Alps has been compiled and cross-border harmonized in 3D geological models by project partners from Austria, France, Germany, Italy, Slovenia and Switzerland. This web service provides a selection of maps from the Upper Austria – Upper Bavaria area, one of the project’s overall 5 pilot areas, as examples for the range of thematic map series derived from the 3D geological models prepared in the GeoMol project and held available in the web services of www.geomol.eu.

GeoMol Pilot Area Upper Austria - Upper Bavaria: Map of the structural inventory (major faults and fault zones) at the base of the Older Lower Marine Molasse. Distinguished are synthetic and antithetic systems, the latter being prerequisite for structural traps. Map derived from the 3D geological model as prepared in the GeoMol Project. Details in the Project Report http://www.geomol.eu/report/
