  • The Trees and Woodland Protection Regulations (S.L. 549.64), aims at protecting the trees and woodlands of the Maltese Islands, particularly native species and communities. For this reason ERA has so far designated a total of 60 TPA in order to protect trees for future generations. Trees within a TPA are protected from activities and operations that may have an adverse impact on them, such as development.

  • Harmonised WFS Download service. The Seveso Directive obliges Member States to ensure that operators have a policy in place to prevent major accidents. Operators handling dangerous substances above certain thresholds must regularly inform the public likely to be affected by an accident, providing safety reports, a safety management system and an internal emergency plan. Twelve COMAH establishments have been identified in Malta, eight of which are upper tier sites. The establishments are all designated as COMAH sites due to the type and quantity of fuels stored at the facilities.

  • Harmonised WFS Download service. The Geographical Sub-Areas (GSAs) were established under the RES-GFCM/33/2009/2 - Establishment of Geographical Sub-Areas in the GFCM area amending the resolution GFCM/31/2007/2. The dataset only shows the GSA15 which is the GSA in which the Maltese Islands are found.   • Harmonised WFS Download service for This layer shows the agglomeration defined for Malta according to the requirements of Directive 2002/49/EC relating to the assessment and management of environmental noise. This is the area for which strategic noise maps are produced.

  • Harmonised WFS Download service. These datasets were manipulated and produced in aggregated maps by showing the intensity of VMS (and not the effort) by a methodology used in the Department of Fisheries and Aquaculture. Since most of the vessels are under 12 m and have no VMS, these maps represents only a fraction of the Drifting Long Lines vessels - 59.1% of the vessels targeting Tuna.For this dataset of tuna 2-3 knots for hauling and speed were taken into consideration.

  • Harmonised WFS Download service for the Tertiary theme gives information on the Miocene and Oligocene bedrock divided at Member level.It was produced from the Geological Map of the Maltese Islands published at a scale of 1:25,000 by the Oil Exploration Directorate (OPM) in 1993. This map depicts the bedrock geology of the Maltese Islands including lithological and structural information.

  • This Harmonised dataset for download represents the mean sea level and perched groundwater bodies of the Maltese islands.

  • Harmonised WFS Download service. This dataset consists of part of the Strategic Proposals and Marine Objectives as published in the Strategic Plan for the Environment and Development (SPED). It shows the location of a Strategic Open Gap which should be kept free from further urban development.
