Administrative divisions of India as of July 2000
The available shapefile represents the administrative divisions of Inia. The shapefile divides India into 27 states and seven union territories. The states and union territories are subdivided into 560 districts. These, in turn, have 2101 subdivisions that are generically called sub-districts, but that have different statuses by state. We received the shapefile from the French Institute of Pondicherry (IFP). The original source of the shapefile remains unknow but it seem it is from he government. We used the shapefile as the best available information to georeferrence the samples of the Herbarium of the French Institute of Pondicherry (IFP).

- Statement
- 1. We received the three shapefiles from the French Institute of Pondicherry (IFP) in 2013 2. The initial source of the three shapefiles remains unknown. 3. Reprojection of shapefiles to Lon./Lat. WGS84 4. The begin of the temporal extent of the administrative subdivision that represents the shapefile remains unknown. The shapefile does not reflect the official name change of Delhi union territory to National Capital Territory that took place 1992-02-01. The end date of the temporal extent seems to be 2000-11-01 because the shapefile does not reflect the split of Chhattisgarh state from Madhya Pradesh, as provided by the Madhya Pradesh Reorganization Bill, which passed on 2000-07-31.
