Elevation - Rockall and Helen's Reef - high resolution multibeam echosounder bathymetry

High resolution bathymetry data of Rockall and Helen's Reef collected 2011-2012 as part of the ROAME Offshore Fisheries and Conservation (OFFCON) project.

Rockall, a tiny island just 19 metres high, sits on the very extremity of Scotland’s marine environment. Some 180 miles due west of St. Kilda, it is buffeted year round by the extreme winds and swell that the North Atlantic weather generates. As such, it is Scotland’s only truly offshore shallow water ecosystem. The islet of Rockall is actually the only part of vast plateau of submerged continent that remains above sea-level.

Statement
Raw multibeam echosounder bathymetry and snippets data collected in 2011 and 2012 using MRV Scotia (surveys 0711S and 0712S) equipped with the Reson PS2000 MBES system. Data was collected at maximum resolution at 200 and 400 kHz frequency. The out-cropped area surrounding the islet of Rockall was surveyed to a depth of approximately 120 m. Total area covered was approximately 9 nm by 5 nm. In addition a deeper (240-260 m)strip of seabed known to contain coldwater coral reefs in also part of this dataset. SIC was Francis Neat, acoustic technician was Phil Copland.
