Groundwater Vulnerability to Pollution O factor map (Overlying layers) in karstic aquifers of Catalonia according to COP

Overlying layers factor map indicates the natural protection of the groundwater surface provided by the geological layers of the unsaturated zone and the overlying soil. It is expressed as a value according to COP ranges from 1 to 15, being 0 the less degree of protection and the range of 8 - 15 the highest degree of protection.

Statement
The overlying layers factor map has been assessed taking into account the Os parameter (type of soil which has been extracted from the Soil Map of Catalunya at 1:250.000 (ICGC, 2018) and classified according with the textures and thickness of each soil) and the OL parameter (lithology layers on the unsaturated zone, their thickness and degree of confinement) based on the predominant lithological nature of aquifers map (ICGC, 2016) and the depth of groundwater level. Combining Os, and OL, the final Oscore factor has been assessed and classified according to COP ranges.
