Portuguese Mineral Occurrences and Resources Information System - SIORMINP
The Portuguese Mineral Occurrences and Resources Information System (SIORMINP) provides access to geoscientific, technical and economic information on occurrences, reserves and resources, associated commodities, geology, mines, mining activities, mining wastes and areas with mining potential known in mainland Portugal. Moreover, this information is the result of Portuguese data structure and vocabulary used in former European projects, namely Eurogeosource, Promine, Minerals4EU and ProSUM, enlarged and adjusted to the database model and codelists of INSPIRE Minerals Resources theme.

The LNEG’s database SIORMINP – Information system of Portuguese mineral occurrences and resources - was created in 1997 to store information related to the mineral occurrences, reserves and resources, associated commodities, geology, mines and mining activities. In 2002 SIORMINP data has been stores in an MS Access database with its own design/architecture and vocabulary, based on a relational model in which each minemal occurrence or resource is connected to a wide set of auxiliary tables, each one containing data for a particular subject and related information. In 2005 a simplified version of the SIORMINP was created and made available through LNEG's geoPortal ( http://geoportal.lneg.pt/ ) in order to allow access to its users through the Internet. Recently, SIORMINP was migrated to a centralized Geodatabase with the objective of integrating into a single database all the relevant mineral resources data disperded in other databases created for the European Projects in which LNEG has been participating (e.g EuroGeoSource, Promine, Minerals4EU, ProSUM). A back office application is being developed to facilitate data update in a Web environment by the Mineral Resources and Geophysics Research Unit which is responsible for the SIORMINP management. SIORMINP's point representation of mineral occurrences corresponds to the centroid of the mining concessions.
Moreover, the present dataset is the result, improvement and adaptation of Portuguese data structure and vocabulary used in former European projects, namely Eurogeosource ( http://www.eurogeosource.eu/ ) and Promine ( http://promine.gtk.fi/ ) into the database model and vocabulary of Minerals4EU and ProSUM projects, harmonized according to INSPIRE requirements.
Some specificity of data from distinct layers - Group of minerals instead of minerals : The following minerals (in brackets) should be interpreted as the group of minerals to which they belong: tourmaline (schrol), feldspar (albite), apatite (fluorapatite), mica (muscovite), chlorite (clinochlore), amphibole (ferrohornblende), carbonates (calcite). Mine and Mining activity: Mine with a Minestatus “operating” should be assumed as a mine having a concession. Some inconsistencies between mine’s dates and dates from correspondent mining activity reflects the history of the mine and are referred in the mine remark.
