Distribution Model: Winter presence-only habitat suitability of Tursiops truncatus

Observations of live Tursiops truncatus from different datasets collected in France and the United Kingdom were compiled to generate Maxent presence-only habitat suitability models in the CHARM3 study area. The data span from 2002 - 2011 and come from both dedicated and opportunistic surveys from land, sea, or air.

Explanation
Habitat suitability model of Tursiops truncatus in the English Channel and southern North Sea. The data were provided from a variety of sources including public sightings, dedicated and opportunistic surveys on a variety of platforms over several decades. No information on search effort is available so the data represent presence-only sightings.

Statement
Sightings records were contributed by: Marinelife and the Atlantic Research Coalition, the University of Exeter, the Sea Mammal Research Unit, the Cornwall Wildlife Trust and Seaquest Southwest Programme, Wildfowl and Wetlands Trust Consulting, Marine Conservation International and the International Federation for Animal Welfare, the Joint Nature Conservation Committee, the Centre de Recherche sur les Mammifères Marins, and the Iroise Parc Naturel Marins. Data were filtered to remove obvious location errors (i.e. on land) and in poor seastates (>3 Beaufort Scale). The filtered dataset was then used to generate Maxent presence-only habitat suitability model rasters in 0.04 degree resolution.
