Effort (days) derived from UK-registered commercial fishing activity in Scottish seas using active pelagic gears (midwater trawls, seines, and trolling lines), as recorded in last five years of published statistics. Data is redacted if less than five vessels operate within an ICES statistical rectangle (values = -1).

Statement

Data derived from logbook data provided to the UK fishing authorities as required under EU or national legislation. Data is only derived for UK-registered vessels over 10m in overall length. Data is recorded against ICES statistical rectangles. Scottish seas are defined as those rectangles which intersect Scottish fishery limits defined by the Scottish Adjacent Waters Boundary Order 1999 and where the recorded Exclusive Economic Zone was UK waters. Pelagic active gear includes any mobile or towed fishing method used in midwater or near sea surface, including trawls, seines and trolling lines.
