Statement

Rural Settlement Units are geographical areas loosely based on primary school catchment areas. Category 1 RSUs : These areas are generally non – remote areas with stable or increasing populations or where there are no services or facilities in need of support. In these areas new housing development outwith settlements should be restricted. Category 2 RSUs : Primarily remote rural areas where limited new development outwith settlements may be appropriate in order to stem rural depopulation and/or support existing services.
